Select a State to Begin

Has your driver’s license been stolen or have you lost it? While this can be frustrating, there are several very easy tips and steps that you can follow that will allow you to get a new copy of your license to ensure you’re able to drive legally.

Apply Online

If you have lost your driver’s license and need to have it replaced, the most convenient way to go about it is to apply online. If your driver’s license is in good standing, you should be able to apply for an online replacement and receive it in the mail fairly quickly. However, if your name has changed or you have moved since you last got your driver’s license you will have to go into a local DMV to have your information updated.

Go to DMV

If you need to change any of the basic information that is on your driver’s license, or if you do not have access to the internet, you will have to go the DMV to request a replacement driver’s license. In some DMV location’s you can expect to wait for hours so it is recommended you request an appointment online.

If an appointment is not available quickly it is recommended you go to the DMV without an appointment. When going to the DMV without an appointment, you should try to go either early in the morning or towards the end of the evening when the lines are a little bit shorter. Before going to the DMV look online to determine what identification you must bring with you and what documents need to be filled out. It is recommended you fill out any paperwork before you arrive to save time.

Check your states online DMV site to confirm the fee’s required for replacing a driver’s license.

Identity Theft

If you are concerned that your driver’s license was stolen, it would also be a good idea to sign up for some identity theft protection. After you replace your driver’s license, you should seek out a service that will be able to alert you if someone tries to apply for credit in your name.
